When we call ourselves The 1912 Society, it’s more than just a name — it’s a tribute to the year Louisville athletics truly began its journey as what we know today.

In 1912, the University of Louisville reached a milestone: for the first time in school history, football, basketball, and baseball all took the field and court in the same academic year. It was the year UofL athletics became more than a single program — it became a community of sports.

• 🏈 The football team was still in its early years, building the toughness and grit that would define the Cards.
• 🏀 Basketball was officially launched as a varsity sport — the seed of a national powerhouse.
• ⚾ Baseball joined the mix too, setting in motion a tradition of hard-nosed, diamond-strong competition.

1912 marked the moment Louisville stopped being “just a team” and became an athletics program — multiple sports, multiple seasons, one shared fan base. Whether it’s football Saturdays, March Madness runs, or baseball in Omaha, we’re stronger when every sport is part of the same family.
